Newness at AnnaH (and a windlight *wtf*)

My time in SL is very limited at the moment due to RL work, but I did want to show you one of the (fairly) new releases from a continuously evolving designer, Annah Whitfield at AnnaH. She’s someone I’ve known for a while and I’ve had fun watching her offerings evolve to more sophisticated ensembles with layer options, texture depth and detail, and mixing and matching potential.

But here’s the outfit I picked out of the group of new releases from AnnaH. This is “Simone” and it comes with numerous layers and ways to wear it. My favorite mix is the shorts, paired with the bolero jacket and silk tank (with great detail). I added a scarf from Veschi (from the Muffin Top dress), but in general, I try to show releases as they are provided.

The shorts have sculpted cuffs, as does the jacket. I would have preferred a more finished cuff on the shorts, rather than having to add the prims, but that’s my personal preference and I know a lot of people like sculpted attachments. I tend to use them mostly with jeans and other trousers.

Now, in the production viewer, the attachments basically blend with the mesh textures. There’s always some difference with prims skirts, cuffs, etc, but in general, it’s usually not stark and doesn’t detract significantly from an outfit. However, in Windlight, here’s what sculpted cuffs look like for me. This is not an issue with Annah’s items; it happens to me with many I have tried and seems to be especially bad if you have direct local lighting nearby.

Myg talked about this very issue yesterday on her blog. I don’t know if the answer is a different tinting strategy by designers or to make all attachments mod so customers can try to fix this issue themselves depending on their pre-sets. The catch is, Windlight is still quite buggy, so not every designer is working in it yet - and even if they are, since each person can change their personal lighting scheme individually with vastly varying presets and local lighting, attachments might not look the same to everyone. I don’t know what the answer is…but if someone has thoughts on the best way to mitigate for your average shopper, I’d love to hear them. Perhaps it’s not affecting everyone the same way?

But getting back to Simone, the whole pack comes with bolero jacket, silky tank, gaucho shorts, glitch pants, pencil skirt, and fishtail flexi skirt, as well as numerous layer options and the aforementioned sculpted accents.

I changed my hair to the new ETD Davina II here, which I thought was a more appropriate partner for the business styled skirts (and I happen to want to marry it). Predictably, I prefer the system pencil skirt over the flexi skirt, but I’m a SL fashion anomaly apparently. I do love good pencil skirts. I also added fishnets from Celestial Studios and a necklace from Last Call Covet.

Here’s what the flexi skirt looks like for me in Windlight…don’t even get me started on how different my skin tone and hair color are :p

Check out Annah to see her other new releases as well.

I’ve been meaning to stop in for a long time now and leave a msg letting you know just how much I enjoy your blog. It always catches my eye on the feed and I always always pause to read and browse your posts. Your posts are always so informative but not too much, the photos so crisp and clean, and your sense of style is great - and just ..spot-on all the way around! One of my fav blogs to stalk, for sure.

So yeah, just wanted to let you know that. :)

Oh and not sure if it’s just me but on your main blog load page, the left hand side menu there seems to bleed into your center page content…it overlaps it?

Thanks, Dove <3 I broke something in my blog layout :/ I am not sure where or when - but it hates me at the moment lol. I am trying to fix it. It seems to only happen if you use IE (I use Firefox) but I could be wrong.

Ahh windlight. I can honestly say I do not have windlight yet, partially for some of the reasons you touched on in this post. I’m kinda scared of what I look like to the other people that ARE using it though!
However, touching on the sculpted prim attachments, I noticed a similar problem with some my outfits, but when I took my facelight off everything looked the way it should. I swear i’m running a 2000 watt lamp on my face.
    Great post!!

Hey Dahlia - I agree on the facelight thing. I don’t wear one in Windlight because it has been making things worse for me (and oddly coloring prims, as you mention). So the only lights shining on me in that shot is the sun (which is actually behind me). I don’t know - I suppose we all just need to get used to change…

Just make the color of the whole object lightly grey, its not a issue its just avatar behaving to lights in different ways than prims.. (odd yes but true), in every creation I make with prim attachments I color the prims light grey and it balances.

Hey Gillian - Dove is right, in IE, your left column menu items are bleeding over but I have a large widescreen monitor and once I expand the app it recovers but it’s been happening to me as well.

Sorry about the WL issues….it’s unfortunate it does cause picture/color distortions and how drastic they can be from the regular SL viewer. <3

I think it’s fixed -if you press shift+refresh it should work…but lemme know (I don’t use IE because it’s evil)

    You look lovely in Simone!

I love WindLight to take pics at landscapes but I am afraid to take pics at outfits in it. Every time I tried it, I gave up on the pics.
Iris (Ophelia) wrote an article about it but I didn’t test her suggestions yet.

Your blog doesn’t look weird in (my) IE7 (in 1280×1024). I use Firefox because I don’t trust IE and it always looks fine. :)
