All about the pretty (skins)

posted in Now wearing..., Skins |

Over the last week, I’ve talked skins several times - Damiani, Gala and then Skin Fair more broadly. Today, I thought I would let the skins be the inspiration for several different looks. It’s taken me a few days to put this together because I haven’t had much time in SL lately…hopefully, I’ll catch up with my shopping lists soon!

Starting with the new La Sylphide skin from Stephanie Misfit, Ingrid. I’ve made no secret about how much I am really enjoying Steph’s work - and Ingrid is another beautifully distinctive face that I was drawn to instantly. Plus, these are available in my preferred light tones - and they’re lovely. They inspired a couple pictures on my Flickr before Skin Fair, and now, they’ve inspired a spring ensemble made up mostly of new items from Elephant Outfitters at Armidi.

My favorite piece of the ensemble I am wearing is probably the vest. Until now, I have been mostly enjoying Armidi hair and shoes, but the new releases at Elephant Outfitters are very much up my alley in terms of clothing. I love the simplicity of a piece that doesn’t need prims to be special. I know I may be a dying breed, but I still prefer a crisp and finished texture that can stand alone, and all the new items from EO do just that. My tank is new from Larue Laval at LaLa Foo Foo. I am always saying “why doesn’t anyone make basic colored tanks I can layer with????” Thankfully, there are plenty to be had here. My hair is “AnaLu” from Truth, a little wild and definitely beautiful.

My shoes are the new “Verve” heels from Maitreya. I don’t know what I can say that hasn’t been said about Onyx’s shoes before…but for me, these are my favorites of her releases - not because the texturing is perfect (it is), and not because they come in usable colors for every outfit (they do), but because they literally hug your foot from every angle. I am guessing that is pretty hard to do - and these are literally flawless in that regard.

See Fleur, Wax Poetic, and Chai mixes, plus full credits after the jump…

Next is “Marni” from Fleur. This is make-up 1 (almond tone) and is only available at Skin Fair for now. I knew it was going to mine as soon as I saw it. I cannot resist bright blue eyes.

With blue eyes like that, I went in search of something suitable. After a stop at Nicky Ree, I picked up this pretty number, which is a special Relay for Life dress available for $200L. It comes with both an empire prim and a system skirt that you can wear without prims. You really cannot go wrong no matter how you wear it and of course, there are many beautiful colors available.

Next is the stunning “Trinity” make-up from Chai Skins. Beautiful bright lips - and it was tempting to try to match them, but I chose to let them be the standout in a bit of black (aside from shoes).

I’m wearing the pretty “Wednesday” suit from Cachet, but without the jacket, buttons and feather prim, which is probably fashion suicide, but I quite liked it on it’s own.

Finishing it up with an Eloh mod from Roberta Beauchamp’s “Wax Poetic” line at Love Love Love. I can’t say why - perhaps the rosy cheeks - but the make-up made me think retro.

I’m wearing the new piled high ETD “Aiiyanna” hair (in ebony), Persona’s new classy “Helena” dress in orange (the shorter skirt and without the prim cuffs), and the ETD “Everyday Tote” with AO from Torrid Midnight.

You’ve probably guessed by now, but all these snaps were taken in Windlight.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you have great taste, Gillian. :p

PS: I agree with you about well-finished non-prim items. While I admire some of the amazing prim-work available I think that sometimes people under-estimate the system clothing. It may not being able to do everything we’d like it to but a lot can be done just with light and shade. eg: the pockets on those Leila Bermuda Shorts, I feel like I could put my hand inside them.

<3 'Kota - That vest had your name all over it :D In fact all the pieces in EO are very appealing to me for the same reasons I always loved Savvy?

Yes, it’s almost too good to be true how well everyone’s different design principles are meshing together. And I’m holding your words up as proof that Savvy? isn’t dead hahaha.

I’m so glad to see you wearing La Sylphide, I think she is one of the most promising new skin makers out there. I’ve had the good fortune to dish about skin making with her on occasion and I admire her integrity and vision.

Flawless style as always. I think I broke the bank at EO. I got almost one of everything, so sad. Love all your combinations above, phenomenal, pretty and sexy.
