What made you stay?

posted in In-depth, Now wearing... |

I have been revisiting old favorites again - in fact this time around, potentially the favorite. Without being too overbearingly Gillian-like, I’ll go so far as to say that this particular shop was one of the reasons I stayed interested in SL fashion over the long haul. It was the first clothing I purchased and thought, “this is very me.” The real me.

Those who know me might already know that I’m talking about ‘Kota Buck’s Savvy? brand. Looking back through 1.5 years of fashion blogging will indeed reveal that I not only own everything she’s ever made, but I very likely blogged it too :o

I remember the first item I ever bought from ‘Kota was a pair of “Colleen” bib shorts. They’ve been re-done since then and are still available in multiple colors in fact. The point is, I trash a lot in my inventory but there are certain shops that get a special place and will *never* be culled.

Unless you’ve been under a rock, you know that ‘Kota is now designing as Lindsay Armidi. Though I’m proud of her and eagerly await more from her as Lindsay, I’m not shy about saying how much I miss Savvy? I also know I’m only one of many. Of course, the good news is Savvy? is still around and most of the items I snapped here (no, not all) can still be purchased.

Take a little trip down memory lane…and think about the shop that made you stay

If you own any Savvy? then you know it’s all about the details - all hand drawn details. For example, how many designers do you know who take the time to draw a shadow where the blouse ties and would naturally lie on your chest? Seriously.

Obviously, a main feature of ‘Kota’s inventory is system skirts. Say what you will but I <3 them. No prim twiddling required and there’s something completely classic about a detailed system skirt. But those who only do flexi will of course find plenty of that too.

Maybe you missed her tribute to Stephanie Misfit with “Dear Stephanie” or her version of the LBD with “Little Black Ache” - in which case, for shame. Busy is as busy does…classic, edgy, timeless and simple are the staples of Savvy? designs. Do you own the “Mean Business” collection? You don’t have be doing any real business in SL aside from the business of looking unique in a sea of clashion.

If you’re in the market for hot pink, sorry you won’t find much here. ‘Kota stays mostly in the jewel and earth tone families. Neutrals, subtle shades of gray and purple, greens, blues, pinks, and classic brown and black. These are wonderful staples for mixing, always provided on every layer and at prices that are (frankly) far too low for what you get.

Finally, some of my favorite items happen to be her capris. The “Roslin” and “Haver” outfits both feature what I feel strongly are the best high waisted capris in SL. I cannot stress enough the varied styles for every mood and occasion.

There’s so much more (obviously), but if you haven’t thought about Savvy? lately, I hope you’ll take another visit. In fact, I hope we’ll see some new mixes out there in the blogosphere featuring some of the best hand drawn clothing in SL. Keep your eyes peeled for the new Savvy? main store coming soon (if Jonathan Hugo gets his pixel butt in gear :p)

Revisit Savvy?

Please leave a comment if you need the name of a specific hair, skin, shoe or Savvy? outfit.

When I was brand new to SL, I really struggled with finding things that I enjoyed (seeing, doing, wearing, etc.) until I discovered Fashionably Dead in the old desert Tableau. Before I found Toast, I hadn’t even bothered to purchase lindens due to the lack of things I could imagine wanting to spend them on. Toast Bard, and the other creators of Tableau, are what kept me from leaving the grid for good. :)

Yes - it used to have hair too but the avatar behind the hair took a break from SL if I recall correctly. This was a couple months ago so it might not be available at all anymore. She made all her hair free.

I miss Savvy! a lot too… Sure Dakota will do a high quality job at Armidi, but without the originality and creativity she has!
