What made you stay?

I have been revisiting old favorites again - in fact this time around, potentially the favorite. Without being too overbearingly Gillian-like, I’ll go so far as to say that this particular shop was one of the reasons I stayed interested in SL fashion over the long haul. It was the first clothing I purchased and thought, “this is very me.” The real me.

Those who know me might already know that I’m talking about ‘Kota Buck’s Savvy? brand. Looking back through 1.5 years of fashion blogging will indeed reveal that I not only own everything she’s ever made, but I very likely blogged it too :o

I remember the first item I ever bought from ‘Kota was a pair of “Colleen” bib shorts. They’ve been re-done since then and are still available in multiple colors in fact. The point is, I trash a lot in my inventory but there are certain shops that get a special place and will *never* be culled.

Unless you’ve been under a rock, you know that ‘Kota is now designing as Lindsay Armidi. Though I’m proud of her and eagerly await more from her as Lindsay, I’m not shy about saying how much I miss Savvy? I also know I’m only one of many. Of course, the good news is Savvy? is still around and most of the items I snapped here (no, not all) can still be purchased.

Take a little trip down memory lane…and think about the shop that made you stay

Kyoot Army Reinvented

Talking to Saeya the other night, I saw what she was going to release at Kyoot Army and my first thought was, this is exactly what real fashion brands do - always reinvent. And, what Saeya released today is only the beginning of what will amount to a complete re-branding. Lucky for us, we get to follow along on the journey…one that’s very modern, completely wearable and eminently mixable.

The first of the outfits above is “New Money,” which comes as you see it with the “Old Money” hat (my new favorite hat!). It makes use of the system skirt (hooray!) with a slick, skinny belt…a theme in this release in fact. More on that in a moment. I’ll also add this this collection is 100% hand drawn and makes perfect use of color.

The other major release is the “Electro Ballet” dress and bodysuit, which comes in 6 colors - and all are mixable. You get two tops (one without belt and one with), skirt base, bodysuit bottom and bandau top to go underneath. Of course, every usable layer is provided and I’d strongly encourage you to get yourself in on the skinny belt action as well, since they will work with the “New Money” dress as well.
So you can go from this –> that easily…

You can wear the tops with any shirt that works for you and of course, mix up all the skirts and tops - and then, mix with the 12 belt choices that are available in a GREAT fatpack. You can even wear with your own favorite trousers and then add a matching skinny belt.

See more after the jump…

Royal Blue Preview

Marni Grut has just wrapped up (or is wrapping up?) a massive sale at her brand Royal Blue. Only to make way for a whole slew of new inventory - including some of the goodies I fancied and will show you here.

It bears repeating that for me, Marni is one of the most interesting people I have met in SL (and one of the funniest). Some of her humor shows in her work at times - but no matter how you view the wares of this RL art student, she’s incredibly true to what her inspires her and not what might make her bank. Although I hope there’s lots of that too!

The trousers above are the “Harem High Waists” (Harem, of course) in taupe. There is no top, so build your own look around them. I opted for the rather simple, and I think perhaps even early Autumn look here with stark white tights and leather bag.

My skins are all new from Blowpop, and I told Annyka this, but her make-ups just get better and better. I love the strong lips in the “Shades of Valena” collection and especially the subtle blush of the “Keeping Up with the Rossinis” collection - both variants of the new Tuesday line.

Sculpts: Let’s See How Far We’ve Come

It was just a little over a year ago when sculpted prims made their way into SL designers’ “sewing kits” so to speak. I recall one of the first clothing designers to utilize sculpties in the most amazing ways was my friend Ginny Talamasca. Over the year, those applications have multiplied - moving from outfit accents and adornments to full skirts and even, complete outfits top to bottom (although wearing one of those to a lag-filled event doesn’t always work out the way you hope it will). It’s remarkable actually, the ways SL fashion (shoes, clothing and accessories) and beauty (hair) has evolved through the use of sculpts.

One of the designers to use sculpties in completely new ways was Maria Gherardi of MG Fashion. I recall last fall her Outono outfit utilized a completely sculpted skirt - which for the time, was quite outside the norm. It should be said though that sculpties are great but they’re not all that appealing to me unless they’re accompanied by fantastic textures. In the case with Maria’s new dresses, fortunately we have both in spades.
